I am running the London Marathon and got a calf injury 9 days ago. My Osteopath advised me to rest it for a week and then ease back into training again with a light jog and stetching which I did followed by a 30 mins run the next day. The infury has now re-occurred and feeling worse Any suggestions?

I would look at the type of runners you are wearing to see if you are getting the right amount of support.
If the pain comes on when your running or when your finished your training session? also can you pin point the pain you say it is in your calf but is it affecting the achilles tendon when your heel hits the ground?
you could have a peronus longus strain and may need to stretch it or tape may help if the pain is mainly during your training.

Sheena Murphy (physio) and also a beginner runner, but starting with a half marathon in Kildare.

Sorry for not responding sooner. Had difficulty understanding how to access responses as I have not corresponded using these methods before!

Yes your right it appears it was my runners. We thought this was not the problem at first because I bought them from Run and Become which is a very reputable shop. However both the right and left leg went in the same places which would suggest it was the shoes.

Unfortuneatley by the time the injuries recovered it was too late to run the Marathon properly and so I will be doing a half marathon like youself in the summer and then re enter next year.

Thanks for your help

Sam

I think you should have a longer rest for a good recovery. Be patient!
