How to train to run a half marathon? One of my ambitions for 2010 is to run a half marathon. I've always had a hard time running for a long time and long distances, so I want to find out how to train... Is there a book or website that has helped anyone go from a non-runner to a marathon runner? I am fairly fit- I have no problem swimming for long distances or cycling for long distances. I just have an extremely difficult time running. Any suggestions would be MUCH appreciated!

For non runners who want to start running the Couch to 5k program is fairly popular and it is available online. It might be easy for you if you are in good shape. One problem could be the speed you run. I know I ran with my wife for a few months (before she decided it was not for her), and she would start off running way to fast and would get tired quickly. Once I had her slow down she could run farther. Think this is part of the idea of the C25k program.
After you finish this try to add more days of running during the week and mre miles gradually. Rule of thumb is add about 10 percent to your weekly mileage. So if you ran 10 miles one week , add 10 percent (1 mile) to get 11. It is thought that adding to many miles to quickly results in an increase likeliness of becoming injured.
And try shorter races like 5k's etc. first. And most of all Have fun!
