I'm an old time runner, I'm 42 now and been running for 15 years or so.
My best marathon is a 3:02 at the 100th boston running.
I qualified for boston a year ago at Las Vegas with 3:15. I tried boston april 2007 with a little bad weather and luck and did 3:30. To my luck I was able to use my las Vegas time to enter Boston again next april 2008.
I have not trained much, and now I am 17 weeks into the marathon. Do any one know about a miraculous traning plan to get ready to run boston ?

You've got plenty of time! No need for any miracles - just train properly and you're there.

You are right, I have still some time, but any way, could you suggest a good tranning plan. I´m following Hal Higdon's MARATHON TRAINING GUIDE Advanced Training Schedule. Any other suggestion. ?

Thanks

I ran Boston in 06 and what helped me was running lots of hills like what you'll see. I've always been an advocate of "simulating" game situation no what sport I played, and for Boston that means hills. I picked a training route that had lots of rolling hills and was especially hilly between miles 16 to 21 which is as you know the toughest part of Boston. Good luck you'll do fine

Hills is right. What's most important for Boston is downhill running. I run mostly ultramarathons, which are typically up and down mountains. For ultras, one must run efficiently down long, steep hills in order to survive. This preparation makes Boston the perfect marathon for ultrarunners. For everyone else, it makes the race a killer. Get in a lot of downhill running and you will find that Boston can be a great PR course. Keep in mind that you need to slowly add in down hills to avoid overtraining injuries. Higdon's plan is good, better are Pfitzinger's and Daniels' and some others, but what's most important before any is that you develop your aerobic system before putting a lot into speedwork and such. Speedwork will do you no good for a marathon if you don't have excellent endurance. Read through some of the links in the low heart rate training article in the "running articles" section for some ideas on how to build up your aerobic base.

IF you know the course and potential conditions then go out on long runs which simulate those conditions. If you have 12 weeks before a marathon then you have plenty of time to train. I qualified for Boston in my first marathon when I was 40 and my time was 3:35 which is below 18 year old qualifications. I have done 10 marathons since then and got sub 3:40 on 5 of them. IF you are a man then it is very easy for you so just keep running 40-50 miles per week and do one long run and one day of track work per week................thats all I do!
