Details: Male, 30, 170-175lbs
Just completed first marathon in 3hr 40min
Plenty of juice left over and no injuries
Did suffer quad pain from hills but easing off now due to massage and light cycling.
My next marathon is Dec 3rd, with a couple af races inbetween can any one give me advice on the training.
I have a 5k on 10th Nov and a 10k on the 19th. and a 5k swim on the 11th.
My big query is how many long runs should I put in, when is the best time to do them and how long a taper should I leave.
My aim is to go sub 3.30, as the marathon is completely flat.

Your best bet is to lay your schedule from now until race day in front of you and simply see if there are places to put in long runs. You're bound to find one or two. There's definitely no good generic answer to your question as it sounds like you've already got your patchwork of races in place, so now it just amount to putting the puzzle together. You'll have to decide how much taper you need based on how you have recovered from various types of runs. I run marathons and ultras frequently, sometimes on back-to-back weekends, and once on three straight days and I don't really taper, but I don't do speedwork or anything that beats me up in training. I'm also constantly making adjustments based on what my body tells me I've got to do. Just remember how important recovery is in the process and you'll be able to formulate something that will work for you.

Thanks formation, went for a slow 6k last night after a 5 mile cycle home and legs felt very shakey, so will rest them tonight and try again on Sunday. (trying to run before I can crawl I think)
In the mean time swimming to try and keep up the Cardio.

You will probably find your post race recovery gets quicker as you do more marathons. As for long runs - you know you can do the distance so one or two should be ample. Allow your body to dictate how soon you return to full training as pushing yourself too early will only result in illness or injury. Finally, don't be afraid to take the two weeks running up to your next marathon really easy - just a couple of runs each week - you can't over emphasise the benefits of fully recovered legs!
