i have developed knee/hip pain with only 2 weeks until my first marathon. i have been following galloway's training schedule and my longest run was 20 miles, about 3.5 weeks ago. my knee problem it would seem has stemmed from wearing neutral shoes through all my training and having quite intensly pronating feet. i have corrected the shoe problem and am wearing them everywhere so as to break them in on time. my question is..since this discomfort has arisen i have been resting so as not to aggravate more...is it still possible to finish a marathon in two weeks time? (i am super excited about it so mentally i believe i am ready..)

I also had the same problem. I pronate really bad on my feet! My knees started hurting about a month before the marathon and would "lock up" during my long training runs. I would eventually walk it out, but man, they hurt. I ran the marathon and made it through, but it was tough. I went to the doctor afterwards because it was at the point that they hurt just walking. Gues what I found out.....
I had patella tendonitis. It's a simple fix. Do you ever see people running with a band just below their knee cap? This tighens down the tendon and prevents it from moving around while you are active. I put that band on just below my knee and haven't had any pain since.
Give it a try!

I'd suggest at this stage you problem is not so much physical but more mental. You've done the hard work in the wrong shoes which has stretched you physically. Aches and pains during the taper are to be expected. Think R.I.C.E and you'll be OK. Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. I'd suggest the real issue is nervous tension & self doubt but you've done the hard work so you'll be fine.
