Hope this post is in the right place and correctly done - it's my first one here.
I've been running for 2 years and have completed several 5K's and 2 half marathons in September of this year. I'm currently training for my first full in May. I ran my 2 halfs in 2:04 and 2:01
Question is I'm not sure as to which program I want to follow. Galloways walking breaks are good for my mind, as I've used the 4/1 method while training for my first half but then the day of the race, I ran without any walk breaks. Not really sure why I did this, guess I just got caught up in the race.
I know that many programs only have long runs of 20 miles but this scares me. I've read posts that explain that is what is necessary to achieve glycogen depletion. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice as to more success with one of these programs over the other. Also, it doesn't appear to me that Higdon's Novice I or II have much difference.
Hope this isn't too confusing, just wondering with my running experience what someone would advise?
Thanks so much!

I think all programs work for at least 80% of those who use them.

For my first marathon I used a training program from marathon rookie, that had its longest run at 24 miles, I ended up walking at least 4 miles of that. I finished my first marathon without walking in 3:33, so I think the best part of long runs is mental not about glycogen.

I think you have to trust whatever program you use, so if you feel a real need to run the full 26.2 before hand then do so. If not, you won't need to from my experience
