Ill just say that when I want to run fast in a race, I wear my spikes. As to the 1, 2 and 4 I have no idea. Ill let rob take care of that one as hes the resident sprinter expert.

If I was going to compete in either the 1 2 or 4, then there is absolutely no way I would contemplate running it in anything other than spikes, this is because they provide you with better grip on the tartan track surface, particularly when you're starting. Spikes are also around half the weight of your training shoes, so they will make a lot of difference...

Thanks. I'm definetly getting spikes this year, my dad wouldn't let me get some until i started high school track. Any preferances or suggestions as to specific spikes that are good? or is it just personal preferance and fit? Thanks.

i found the Rival 3 and the Rival Sprint 2005

here's the sprint 2005 http://www.runningunlimited.com/asp/product.asp?pid=564

and the Rival 3
http://www.runningunlimited.com/asp/product.asp?pid=730

Does the curve/height of the toe affect speed and stride? or is that just personal fit and preferance? thanks!

and is there any specific details or features i should look for in a good sprinting spike? thanks a million!

Andrea

I ended up getting 2 pairs, because i couldn't decide (they were both cheap) and they both have their good points.....

Nike Zoom Rival- http://www.runningunlimited.com/asp/product.asp?pid=730 except in red white and blue

Asics Hyper-Rocketgirl- http://www.runningunlimited.com/asp/product.asp?pid=452 except in like pink/coral

i don't care how they look or the colors, they both fit, and i liked them.

the Nike was light, and felt like a spike, nice and easy.

and the asics had a longer plate on the bottom, and i got better traction from the outside, and felt like i got a little more support. but i couldn't decide between the 2.

yes, i got the nike zoom rival sprint spike. I got them at Dick's Sporting Goods, it's a national chain, you could check their website and see if they'll ship to the UK.

I like them, haven't had a chance to run in them on a track yet though, it's snowing a lot here. (tried them out at Dick's on their track-like surface to test shoes on) but i like how you can get nice traction on the outside on your foot in them. and the treads are nice, and they fit to your foot well.

i'll check out some websites, see if they ship to UK, good luck!

Spikes help. A lot. I know because i cut about 2 seconds off my 100 time and 4 off my 200 time. Make sure you are getting sprinting spikes. Not distance. That can hold you back.

I have had great success with a very aggressive spike plate for sprints. The plastic bottom spike plate will allow you to get the maximum amount of energy return from the track. Rubber shoes + rubber surface = a lot of energy being absorbed. The aggressive spike plate will most likely have more spikes in it and be stronger. This will allow a very powerful sprinter to put a lot of power into the track. As far as cheapest. Sometimes you can get lucky on ebay. Otherwise an online vendor such as eastbay.com or firsttothefinish.com. Hope this helps.
